Sharon Carmichael
Council W3
Piscataway
How would you describe your candidacy and vision for the future?
I am honored to serve as Vice President on the Piscataway town council. I care about what happens here in Piscataway. I feel a great responsibility and commitment to serve not just the residents of Ward 3, but the entire Piscataway community. With your support I will always work to bring you the best possible services at the least possible cost.
I will continue to work toward making Piscataway a safe place to live and raise a family. I will also work to enhance the great diversity that makes our town so unique.
What do you want people to know about you?
I have lived in Piscataway for 40 years and raised my 3 children here who are successful adults. I attribute that to the wonderful place that Piscataway is to raise a family. I love my town and enjoy giving back to the community.
One of my top priorities has been keeping our streets and entire town safe, that is why I am proud to have voted on ordinances that will protect all our residents. Working closely with our police department on its Safe Streets campaign, we have brought targeted enforcement to areas where speeding is most common. We installed rumble strips and put up 25 mph signs to better protect drivers and pedestrians.
I’ve also partnered with our public works department to resurface roadways throughout the 3rd Ward. Good quality roads don’t just make our neighborhoods safer; they increase the value of homes.
Community connection is at the heart of everything I do. My “Storytime with Sharon” events at the Kennedy Library have been a joy. Seeing so many young children and families coming out eachmonth is truly special. I hope even more of you will join us – these gatherings are one of my favorite ways to bring our neighborhood together.
Serving on the Public Relations, Cultural Arts, and National Night Out committees help me to enhance the quality of life in our beautiful community through programming, while my work with the Holmes Marshall Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary allows me to support our brave first responders.
As the chair of the Piscataway Civil Rights Advisory Commission, I was proud to help organize our first-ever Multicultural Festival at Riverside Park. It was a wonderful day, celebrating the many heritages that make our community so vibrant.
