Petra Gaskins

Council

New Brunswick

How would you describe your candidacy and vision for the future?

Councilwoman Petra Gaskins believes strongly that every resident of New Brunswick deserves real access to the services designed to help them. The city offers a wide range of programs and resources, but too often residents don't know where to turn or get lost in the process of finding help. Gaskins' vision is a New Brunswick where no one falls through the cracks: where outreach is proactive, city services are easy to navigate, and every neighborhood feels the presence and support of local government. She has also been outspoken in pushing back against harmful federal policies coming out of the Trump administration that threaten the safety net so many New Brunswick families rely on, working to shield residents from cuts and rollbacks that put their health, housing, and economic stability at risk. Her commitment is to a city government that meets people where they are: connected, responsive, and fighting for every resident's right to thrive.

What do you want people to know about you?

First black woman to represent New Brunswick and not only the youngest ever elected in New Brunswick but often the youngest politician in the room; aiming to ensure my generation feels that our country is STILL worth fighting for
